Birthday Party with Cousins!

On Aug. 7th (the day in between Erik and Tyler’s birthdays) Grandma and Grandpa threw a birthday party for all three cousins with August birthdays. Erik is 6, Tyler is 1 and Eliza is 10. 

All the cousins! How fun! We hadn’t seen them for a long time so it was super fun for us, but it was even more special because they got to come to Grandma and Grandpa’s house for the first time in a long time, and their Dad Peter, (Alex’s brother) was their as a surprise!  It was awesome !

Holding Tyler was quite useful for that purpose :) It was amazing how Tyler let all the cousins hold him and play with him. Usually he doesn’t like to be held by new people, or anyone other than mom for that matter. But he was quite happy to play with all the kids that night.

Erik’s 6th Birthday - Aug. 6th

We all went to the County Fair. Went on a few rides, saw animals and such. Fun stuff!

At home Erik decorated his cake. For the past three years he has come up with his own ideas of how to decorate his birthday cake. This year he wanted a “gingerbread house” with sprinkles for snow and a pool made out of a donut! It turned out pretty cool I think!

Erik got Buzz and Woody, and a fishing pole and net. (He got to go fishing for the first time the next morning :)

Tyler was getting in the birthday mood with the balloon. His 1st birthday was coming up just two days later!

Monday August 2nd

On this particular day we (and Grandma Linda) did a bunch of stuff…hiked part way up Beacon Rock, went to the Bonneville Dam and fish ladders, ate at Charburger, saw big sturgeon and fed fish at the fish hatchery, and went to Multnomah falls. Whew, I’m tired just remembering it!

We weren’t planning to go very far up at all. (With the kids and steep drop offs and such.) But Alex and Erik were going to go a little farther…and then Adam wanted to go too. So I told Adam we could keep going if he held my hand all the time.

After a little while we did turn around…see perilous path pictured below! It would have been neat to get to the top, but Adam is a little too unpredictable for that. (Okay a lot too unpredictable.) Tyler was in the baby backpack, so he was fine.

After various other activities mentioned earlier, we ended up at Multnomah falls.

After going up to the falls, we stopped on the way down to put our feet in the water. Me, Erik, and Adam that is. Erik walked in all the way to his chest and was obviously totally soaked.  Not quite what I had in mind, but he had so much fun. Definitely his favorite part of the day. Adam was also very wet, but not quite as wet as Erik. Adam had been totally grouchy right before this, but the water fixed his mood very effectively! I didn’t take any pictures of that because I was in the water too…ah water, I do love water :)

I took them out of their wet clothes in the car and we drove home with Erik in wet underwear and Adam in a pull-up. Nobody really minded, it was worth it to get wet!

Mount Saint Helens

On Sat. July 31st we went to Mount St. Helens with Alex’s parents. It was really pretty and not hot! (Yeah for not being in Arizona :)
