Field Trip Fun

On Wednesday Erik had a field trip to Old Tucson Studios (an old west style town that was once used as a movie set). The last time we went there Erik was four weeks old. It's funny how that doesn't seem very long ago when I think about when we were there last...but then looking at Erik now at 4 1/2 compared to 4 weeks old!! Wow, that's been his whole life!

We all got to go on the field trip (me, Alex, Erik, and Adam), and Erik's favorite part was the big train!

He got to go inside the train and try out all the controls, knobs, and levers, and look out the windows.

Erik liked to look at the "green" lake and waterfall.

Here's Erik and Daddy messing around.

The stage coach was another big hit...definitely one of Adam's favorites! Adam did not however like to get too close to the real horses. They were very big and I guess scary to him.

But Adam, (and of course Erik too), loved the little pretend horse.

We all had lots of fun in the hot sun...and it's only February...summer's coming...noooo!

school pictures, haircuts, and lemon zest!

Erik had school pictures today (for the second time this year...surely some ploy to get parents to spend more money buying more pictures...annoying, but it will probably work). Anyway, he looked very hansom before school so I took some pictures of my own:)

Both the boys had haircuts last Saturday, so that worked out well. Erik's hair was all neat and trimmed for his pictures!

Here's Adam with his new haircut too. I have cut his hair many times before, but this was the first time I used my vacuum hair cutter thingy on him...so it is his first shorter hair cut.

Alex made a lemon cheesecake with blueberry topping...YUM!! I was zesting lemons for it, and the smell while zesting a lemon is really wonderful! I let Adam smell the lemon zest and he loved it too! He would come over to me and say "turn" to ask for a turn to smell the zester.

And another good look at Adam's haircut...while still playing with/smelling the lemon zest.

Horton Hears A Who!

Yesterday at preschool the kids could dress up as a character from a book. Erik was Horton the elephant! (as some of you may remember he was an elephant for halloween, so this worked out quite well.)

In the book Horton hears a voice on a tiny speck, he catches it on a flower and works hard to protect it. Erik had the idea to use a daisy from our yard as Horton's flower. Then I mixed glue and tiny bits of grass and twigs to make the "speck" on the flower.

Erik was pretty cute, if I do say so myself :)

Rewind to January

I realized there were quite a few pictures from January that I wanted to post but hadn't yet...so lets go back to the beginning of January for a minute shall we...

Here's Erik drawing and writing with his Christmas present from Grandma Linda and Papa John.

And Adam playing with his dog car (from Grandma Linda and Papa John) and playing with the Leap pad.

Next we have Erik and Adam having lots of fun with a box! (The little guy in the background is Rio, we had friends over that day.)

Here's Adam looking cute and trying out Erik's new bike!

And finally, Erik baking cookies. We had a show recorded from around Thanksgiving time. After the show it had a little segment on how to make these turkey hand cookies. As the show was recorded, the kids had watched it over and over. Erik had practically memorized the directions, and he finally convinced me to help him bake the cookies.
They're hand turkeys as you can see.
This is the one Erik decorated all by himself!

Saturday Fun

A week ago, Alex and Erik went to the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. They got to see lots of cool rocks, crystals, fossils, and stuff! Erik got to pick out some rocks to buy.

Erik loves his shiny polished rocks, and so does Adam. He was so excited to see what Erik had when they got home. Adam wanted to hold all the rocks too!

That same Saturday, Adam and I played outside for a long time while Alex and Erik were gone.

Adam was having so much fun climbing up...

and up...

and sliding down...over and over!

It was just perfect weather outside, and Adam was so happy and quiet! No one to fight with, and outside with lots of things to explore! I had fun watching the way he was so interested in this or that (a rock, a leaf, the pea gravel, sand, a truck, the swing, etc.) It's interesting how toddlers never really get bored outside. Their attention just goes from one thing to the next naturally...sometimes staying with one thing for a long time (like climbing and going down the slide), and sometimes not. Anyway, we had a nice time outside, and I convinced him to go in by offering him a bath, so we didn't even have a screaming fit over going inside! Excellent :)
